Exploring a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and gamers have found a variety of interesting indie games. Yet, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a hero that is literally a piece of poop attempting to make its way to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" translates to "poop."
The gameplay is simple: just use a jump control. In numerous challenges, encounter mini-bosses and access a shop to purchase customizations for your poop character.
Time your actions precisely, as a mistake requires restarting the level. Jump off air pockets to hurl yourself to new heights, traverse crumbling surfaces, and activate triggers to open secret routes. Earn currency for buying more difficult levels in which gameplay intensifies.
Visually, the game boasts eye-catching environments and a killer soundtrack. The simple graphics featuring morphing basic polygons evokes memories of fans of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although hard to name similar titles where you control a piece of feces, video games frequently incorporated toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players make explosives from character waste. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved employ dung as plant food. And of course, such content shows up a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive awards, such as taking top honors at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on PC this November.
