Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to appear in the latest Hunger Games film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
News has broken that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
A Major Reunion for Fans
Lawrence and Hutcherson will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Industry whispers indicate their roles will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, considering the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This represents the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed nearly all the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several accomplished actors in pivotal roles:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.
