Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australian One-Day International Lineup Against Team India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from the three-game ODI series facing India, as in-form Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw receiving a surprise call-up.

Recent Form Result in Omission

Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international team after scoring just one run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a best innings of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 one-day internationals and amassed 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test team comeback ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

There have been indications of a improvement in form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a return to the Test team as Australia search for a solution to their top-order woes.

Bowling Returns and Injury Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after taking a break since starring for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after sustaining a head injury in the build-up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he aims to recover from a back injury by the time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Strategy and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the last match against New Zealand to seal a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be player management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from October 29.
