Springfield's Favorite Family Arrives in Psyonix's Hit Game: But It's Not the Car Fans Are Hoping For

It was previously announced that the iconic animated series was collaborating with Epic Games' battle royale, but this isn't the sole place where enthusiasts can experience the universe of Springfield. The long-running series is coming over to Rocket League, bringing along an in-game car skin that will also be compatible in Fortnite. That said, whether players will truly desire to equip it is another question, as there's only one Springfield vehicle the community is itching to get behind the wheel of, and this new offering isn't that one.

What Fans Really Want

Although most gamers would undoubtedly love to compete behind the wheel of Homer's custom creation—the notoriously impractical automobile the patriarch designed personally in the classic installment "the one where he meets Herb"—regrettably, that isn't what players are receiving. Not even getting the Canyonero, the heavy-duty truck featured in the tenth season. Rather, players are getting the family's everyday well-worn four-door, which has been in the family since the show's early days. Even though this specific vehicle has seen better days, it remains an recognizable element of the series. And for players who analyze Rocket League vehicle dimensions, the trusty sedan uses the same hitbox as the Dominus body type.

More Than Just a Car

And it's not the sole cosmetic from the show arriving in Rocket League. The event will also include a set of objectives to unlock more goodies, all of which are Simpsons-themed. As detailed in a press release, the missions will task players to "achieve a certain number of centers and clears as there are the show's years on air, gather boost canisters as if your GPS is set to the Simpson house, and drive a distance sufficient for picking up the perfect donuts!"

While the full lineup of earnable items hasn't been disclosed, here is what's been announced so far:

  • Blinky topper
  • Homer's hedge-themed banner
  • Waste wheels
  • 20,000 experience points for each challenge

Based on promotional images is a reliable guide, it seems fans will also receive rims with a television showing The Simpsons' title sequence, alien antenna toppers, a frosted doughnut trail, and boost effects themed to burning tires and Krusty's famous restaurant.

Launch Dates and Crossover Details

This event lines up with the extensive The Simpsons takeover of Fortnite, which includes a completely new playable area of Springfield, as well as a month-long Battle Pass. The Rocket League x The Simpsons celebration begins on November 1st and ends on Nov. 17.
